40 Days for Life is a three-pronged approach to ending abortion.
1. Fasting and Prayer. The first commitment we ask everyone to make is to fast and pray from February 13th through March 24th. Fasting does not mean that you can't eat anything for 40 days. It does mean that you stop doing something that you normally would do and offer that sacrifice to the Lord in honor of the pre-born children who are aborted and their families who suffer. Fasting can be a food item - lots of people give up sweets or some type of food they really enjoy - but it doesn't have to be food. Here are some other ideas:
Fast from watching TV for 40 Days. Instead, spend that time in prayer or building up your family's life by doing interactive things together.
Fast your pillow. I heard this inspiring story at a 40 Days for Life Training meeting. A child gave up his pillow for 40 Days for Life. When his mom asked him why he said "So when I go to bed and I'm uncomfortable I remember to pray for the babies."
Fast from Facebook. Change your Facebook profile picture to the 40 Days for Life logo and update your status that you're fasting from Facebook to pray for an end to abortion. If you use Hootsuite or a similar social media dashboard, set up a daily status update that is a prayer for the pre-born so your Facebook friends can pray along with you.
Let us know how you're going to fast for this 40 Days for Life campaign. Send us an email telling us your fasting commitment. We'll share everyone's ideas on this Website, on our Facebook page and on our Blog to encourage others to join us and give them ideas too!
Sign up to receive daily devotionals from your 40 Days for Life team. Just enter your name and email address in the "Help Save Lives" box in the upper-right-hand corner of this page and you'll be all set!
2. Community Outreach. The second commitment is to help educate your community about abortion and invite them to pray with us for the campaign. People need to hear the truth about what abortion does - to the pre-born children, to their families, and to the community at large. Watch our emails for ways you can participate in group outreach events, but here a few ideas you can implement to educate your immediate community: your family, friends, neighbors, social media contacts, email netowrk, Church group - any group of people that you're a part of.
Display a 40 Days for Life Yard Sign. if you'd like a yard sign to display in your yard call our office at 614.445.8508. We'll arrange for you to pick one up or for someone to bring one to you.
Pro-Life Display at Church. Ask your pastor for permission to put up a Pro-Life bulletin board at your church. We can help you with this by providing Pro-Life brochures or educational pieces that you can display on the board. If your pastor will let you put up a table, we also have fetal model sets and information brochures you can put out for people to take with them.
Social Media. Are you on Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media outlet? Every day update your status with a new fact about abortion, life before birth, or other life-affirming information. Share a great pro-life blog article, post a prayer to end abortion, and invite your friends to come pray with you.
Let us know how you're talking about abortion and 40 Days for Life with your community. We'll post ideas on this Website, our Facebook page, and our Blog. Come back often to see what others are doing!
3. Constant Vigil. Why is praying at the abortion facilty so important? Doesn't God hear our prayers just as well from home or church as he does when we're standing in the cold, rain and/or snow on Cleveland Avenue? Of course He does, but consider this exhortation from Proverbs 24:11-12:
"Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say 'But we knew nothing about this,' does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not He who guards your life know it?"
In order to rescue and hold back those whose lives are hanging in the balance we have to be where the death and slaughter are taking place.
In his letter to the Ephesians, St. Paul wrote, "It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by light becomes visible - and everything that is illuminated becomes as light." (Eph. 5:12-13)
Standing vigil at the abortion facility illuminates the shamesful acts committed there and makes them visible for all who pass by. Many people do not know that abortions are committed at Complete Healthcare for Women. We've spoken with some of the doctors' patients who did not know that their OB/GYN doctor would just as willingly abort their children as birth them. We have to be at the abortion facility if we are to bring light into this darkness and witness this truth to those going by and going in.

Three prongs: (1) fasting and prayer, (2) community outreach, and (3) constant vigil. All three matter. All three are a part of the 40 Days for LIfe commitment. Join us on the frontlines today!
