From the street...
Dear Friends & Family,
Went to the 40 Days for Life prayer vigil this week at the abortion clinic ~ surprised by the lack of cars in the parking lot ~ I saw a few people come & go ~ but no evidence of anyone 'staying' for an abortion ~ Praise God!! Perhaps the abortionist doubled up last week, so that he could go on vacation this week ~ doesn't matter ~ no killing today.
Mervy (from St Stephen Valrico) & Teresa (from Christ the King Tampa) & I (from St Anne Ruskin) prayed in the beautiful sunny breezes. As we stood there, I noticed that our shadows on the sidewalk resembled 2 people on either side of a cross ~ reminding me of our Blessed Mother & John standing at Jesus' crucifixion. I have attached that picture. In the same way we believe we stand outside the abortion clinic ~ helpless while babies are murdered inside. But our presence shows that someone cares enough to not abandon them.
As we were praying, a Hispanic woman and man walked into the parking lot. We called out to the woman to offer our help, and she came over ~ but she didn't understand English. Mervy thought to call Catholic Charities, and sure enough, someone answered who spoke Spanish. I was prepared this time to offer to drive her there, but she told Catholic Charities that she couldn't go in today. She left saying she would call & make an appt for tomorrow. It took a few minutes for it to sink in ~ but that was another SAVE!
In a way it is sad for those of us who have taken part in these 40 Days, that it is drawing to a close. We have formed friendships ~ we have seen the power of prayer ~ we don't want to abandon our Life-saving! But there is opportunity to continue on our own, within our church groups. The St Stephen's group goes every 2nd Saturday of the month to pray at the abortion clinic on Kennedy Blvd. At the same time, Prince of Peace (Sun City) goes to Fletcher. Most Holy Redeemer (Tampa) goes to Fletcher every first Saturday. There are more ~ those are the ones I know. Perhaps a list of other prayer groups can be emailed to all the 40 Days volunteers, to let them know where they can stay involved year round.
Remember, 4400 babies are being swept daily from the sanctuary of the womb, and their mothers are suffering the irreversible consequences. It is our God-given duty to give those women hope, and an opportunity to choose life.
For Life, Kathleen Peterson
