Welcome to 40 Days for Life

YOU can help save lives!

From February 17 through March 28, our community will be one of 160 cities coast to coast in the United States - as well as locations in Canada, Australia and Northern Ireland joining together to host the largest and longest coordinated pro-life mobilization in history -- the 40 Days for Life campaign.

40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life effort that consists of:

  • 40 days of prayer and fasting
  • 40 days of peaceful vigil
  • 40 days of community outreach

We are praying that, with God's help, this groundbreaking effort will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in our city -- and throughout America.

Abby Johnson's Story - Former Planned Parenthood Director, now with 40 Days for Life!

During the 40 Days for Life campaign in the fall of 2009, Abby witnessed an ultrasound-guided abortion. She quit her job at Planned Parenthood, as she realized she could no longer be involved in the abortion industry. She has now joined the ranks of 40 Days for Life!  Praise God for this amazing transformation!

"I went to the people in front of my clinic because I knew their arms would be open.  They never judged me... they never condemned me or yelled at me, but they loved me and prayed for me every day for those 8 years.  And that's what we need to be doing to those clinic workers and people who are against what we're doing."

Take a stand for life
While all aspects of 40 Days for Life are crucial in our effort to end abortion, the most visible component is the peaceful prayer vigil outside a local abortion facility.

Statement of Peace
The vigil is always peaceful and prayerful.
All participants agree to abide by the
Statement of Peace with a pledge that they will conduct themselves in a Christ-like manner (The Statement of Peace is located on our Downloadable Forms menu. Participants are not required to sign this form, but are to agree to the terms of this statement).  Our heart is to reach out to the people at the clinics in a loving, not a condemning manner - not heckling them, but reaching out to them. There are other groups that are sometimes at the clinic who take a different approach with graphic signs, etc.  This is not our approach, so if this bothers you or young children with you, please feel free to pray from your car or from whereever you feel comfortable.

College Campus Vigils:
"Students for Life" will be holding simultaneous vigils at the campuses of UNCC and Belmont Abbey from 3-4 pm. Mon. - Fri., Feb. 17-March 28th.  To get involved, contact Kristen Giesler at students4lifeuncc@me.com

 Theme Verse:
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of God.  Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."
Hebrews 12: 1-3

Theme Song Lyrics

Lord I have a heavy burden of all I've seen and know
It's more than I can handle
But your word is burning like a fire shut up in my bones
and I cannot let it go

And when I'm weary and overwrought
with so many battles left unfought
I think of Paul and Silas in the prison yard
I hear their song of freedom rising to the stars
And when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them

Lord it's all that I can't carry and cannot leave behind
it often overwhelms me
but when I think of all who've gone before and lived the faithful life
their courage compells me
And when I'm weary and overwrought
with so many battles left unfought

I think of Paul and Silas in the prison yard
I hear their song of freedom rising to the stars
I see the shepherd Moses in the Pharoh’s court
I hear his call for freedom for the people of the Lord
And when the Saints go marching in, I want to be one of them
And when the Saints go marching in, I want to be one of them

I see the long quiet walk along the Underground Railroad
I see the slave awakening to the value of her soul
I see the young missionary and the angry spear
I see his family returning with no trace of fear
I see the long hard shadows of Calcutta nights
I see the sister standing by the dying man's side
I see the young girl huddled on the brothel floor
I see the man with a passion come and kicking down the door
I see the man of sorrows and his long troubled road
I see the world on his shoulders and my easy load

And when the Saints go marching in, I want to be one of them (repeats)
