Fort Collins, CO
Information on vigil keeping

More information on keeping the prayer vigil of public witness:

1. This campaign is a 40 Day peaceful, prayerful and legal vigil in front of the Planned Parenthood building, on the public sidewalk, at 825 S. Shields St. in Fort Collins.

2. We are within our first amendment rights to be out there but we need to always be aware of the Colorado Bubble Law. We are to remain 100 ft. from the entry door and cannot approach anyone within 8 ft. without their consent.

3. It is very important to stay off the private property of the building in which several other businesses are also housed. There are 'no trespassing' signs posted and we must be careful to honor them. Please also be careful not to block or impede traffic along the street, sidewalk, or driveway. It is okay to walk back and forth on the public sidewalk. Do NOT go up the driveway or park in the back parking lot!  Parking is available at Blessed John XXIII a half a block south at University and Shields (1220 University). We recommend parking there and also this church has restrooms and often some drinks or refreshments for the prayer vigil keepers as well.

4. If the Holy Spirit prompts you to speak to someone--remembering the Bubble Law restrictions--feel free to do so in a loving Christ-like manner. Women can be directed to the Alpha Center (1212 S. College) in Fort Collins or to Lifechoices in Loveland for free help: ultrasounds, testing, counseling, etc. For a greater list of expanded area pro-life agencies please view the webpage at http://www.40daysforlife.com/fortcollins/index.cfm?load=page&page=158

We receive many positive and affirmative responses from people but we also receive negative ones as well.  It is found best to pray for those who give the negative response:  to return a blessing for a curse, so to speak.  And ignore those things; we are there to pray and to give a life-affirming witness.  Facing the building as you pray is one way to lessen responses as well.

5. For those who have never been to a public prayer vigil such as this and wonder what is done: we pray! Some pray the Rosary, some read the Bible, some pray silently, some might softly sing. Feel free to pray in the manner the Holy Spirit leads you.  This is an ecumenical endeavor so respect is appreciated between those from differing faith traditions.

6. The police will have been informed of our peaceful presence. If anyone makes you feel nervous or threatened, do not hesitate to call 911.

7. Please leave any graphic or controversial signs at home. Peaceful, loving signs are fine. You may carry a sign or not, whichever you prefer.  Sunday is considered a 'no sign' day.

8. And we give thanks to God for this opportunity to bring His love to women and men. We pray for the conversion of hearts and the saving of lives and even souls. It is important to show the love of God and His mercy by our prayerful demeanor. We may never know how  our presence may touch a heart, even of someone just passing by.

I thank you for your commitment to help the unborn and their mothers and fathers. May God bless you abundantly!
