Ottawa, ON
Ground Zero Report - Day 35

October 27, 2009

Linda and I went downtown tonight to fill the (supposedly) empty 7-8pm slot. We were never less than 4 during the hour, and hit six for a while.

1) One gentleman went by and said "God bless you" to each of us.

2) A gentleman in his mid-30's (guess) stopped me and politely asked what was happening. I was happy to chat with him about the campaign. He thought we were trying to influence passing politicians, but I explained the presence of the abortion mill opposite. He looked across the street. He wanted to know who we were - what organization was behind this. I explained there were people from different faiths and that we were part of a bigger effort across North America (and as far as Australia). We chatted for a few minutes and then he was off. He looked down at my sign several times as we stood face to face.

3) One of the vigil keepers was a gentleman (John) who had just flown into town from Halifax. He was well informed on the campaign overall, and after arriving at his hotel, sought out the Ottawa vigil site. He just wanted to spend some time in prayer. As we were about to leave, we engaged in an extended conversation which involved the newest vigil keeper who was less knowledgeable about what was going on in Ottawa or elsewhere. He seemed to appreciate the briefing he was receiving as a by-product of my conversation with John. He remained at his post with John keeping him company for a while longer.

Although we keep our vigil at night, it is very brightly lit and there is a steady stream of passer-by.

Peace.
