Day 10 - Seeds That Don't Take Root

October 8, 2012

This year I am one of the people taking turns to bring the sound equipment  for the Proclamation of the Word (11:00 am to 1:00 pm), to ground zero.   Last Friday and again on Thanksgiving Monday, after delivering the equipment  I stayed to pray in front of the abortuary.  It is very inspiring to  hear the Word of God proclaimed.

The first reader had signed up for multiple days and she got her  readings mixed up.  Instead of continuing in the old testament, as she  was supposed to, she started reading from the new testament.  Now  I believe that God has a purpose in our mistakes.  As she was  reading from the book of Luke, about the parable of the Sower, a man walked  by and said, "One day you'll find out that you are all wrong!"

If you recall the parable, the sower scatters the seed and it falls along  the path, on rocky ground, among thorn bushes and on good soil.  Jesus  goes on to explain the parable, and as she was reading, "...the seed is the word  of God. The seeds that fell along the path stand for those who hear, but the  Devil comes and takes the message away from their hearts in order to keep them  from believing and being saved."  Then she heard the man say, "One day you'll find out that you are all wrong!"  The scripture that she just  read really struck home. The devil is the great deceiver in our world today  and many people belittle us because the seeds (words) that come their way  cannot take root.

Thanksgiving Monday was a quiet day.  No hustle and bustle of downtown  workers and no construction crew.  Because of this the sound carried far  and the scripture readings could be heard clearly a block away.  We got a  lot of curious looks from tourists and those out for a holiday walk. Not all the  reactions were positive. I was praying and noticing the pigeons; they are  always around and about on Bank Street.  They remind me of angels around  us, especially when they roost on the buildings and look down on us as we pray.  I feel that angels are watching over us.  Just as I was thinking this, a  flock of birds flew over my head.  The Lord heard my thoughts and sent  angels (pigeons) to fly over us, on our one-block vigil site to remind  me that angels are there with us.

Please come down to Bank Street and help us keep the vigil going.  The  lives of little babies depend on us.
