What is the 40 Days for Life approach to the Prayer Vigil?
"We encourage a positive, prayerful presence outside abortion facilities to show God's love and mercy to those who visit and work at the abortion centers. This approach avoids shouting, confrontation with patients and employees, and the use of graphic abortion images." www.40daysforlife.com/FAQ
Spring 2021 Campaign Covid 19 restrictions on public prayer vigil 40 Days for Life Vancouver, WA.
During this time of Covid-19 pandemic we are taking added safety precautions at our prayer vigil site on NE 116th Ave. Wear a face-covering, social distance 6 feet and no more than 10 people at a time. (You can always pray from your car.)
You are strongly encouraged not to come to the prayer vigil site if you are 65 yo or older or live with someone who is, have a pre-existing health condition or feel ill.
Due to the pandemic restrictions we are are scheduling online only. "SIGN UP FOR VIGIL HOURS"
Volunteers should concentrate on these daylight hours at PP Abortion Center (RU 486 chemical abortion on site and referrals for surgical abortion): Mon & Thurs 9am-4:30pm; Tues and Wed 11am-6:00pm; Fri 9am-3:30pm.
Contact the local coordinator to obtain free handheld signs, buttons and handouts. Email email@example.com or text/call 360-831-7542 to order. Gerry will deliver items at the public vigil site on NE 116th Ave. All items are "new" and "not used before" and will not be returned.
Sign rule: we will no longer place signs on stakes into the ground of the public right of way. (City of Vancouver regulation). We will continue to stand/sit/walk in the public right of way and hold our signs. Public right of way extends 10 feet from the curb away from the street.
"No partisan political signs/personal wear items" continues to be the rule for the 40 Days for Life which is limited to "praying to end abortion", "offering local pregnancy resource packets" and "helping healing for those who are post-abortion." While everyone has a citizen's right to express public support for political candidates/causes/ballot measures, please refrain from doing so as part of the 40 Days for Life prayer vigil.
First Vancouver campaign in 2009 saw a couple change their plan to abort their baby when they saw our volunteers praying on the sidewalk. "My girlfriend and I have decided to give our baby up for adoption."
Hearts broken by abortion begin to hope and heal. In 2017 a lady told us about her abortion over 20 years ago. Our response: “We grieve for your loss.” She said: “No one has ever said that to me before.” We prayed with her asking our heavenly Father to forgive and heal us. Then she thanked us for praying for her baby (we had never mentioned her baby) and took our packet of literature with post-abortion healing information inside.
We rely heavily on the prayers and sacrifices offered by many at home, work and school. Our at-home prayer warriors may benefit from the prayer resources found at www.40daysforlife.com
A special word for those unable to come to the public prayer vigil due to covid-19 restrictions: Schedule prayer time on your "usual vigil day". At home or at church (some churches are open during the day). Make it a special time and be confident the good Lord is hearing your prayers and answering them in His good time.
Everyone who participates in this campaign will be asked to sign the Statement of Peace . (Once is sufficient.) If this Statement does not reflect your approach, please refrain from joining our volunteers at the Prayer Vigil Site during the 40 Days for Life campaign hours. Thank you.
We offer our Local Pregnancy Resource packet to customers and passersby at the Prayer Vigil site.
Feel free to stay in or return to your car if you feel unsafe. Call 911 just as you would in any other situation after going to a safe place. Also let the local coordinator know what happened. 360-831-7542.
