Talk show host Bill Maher once summarized the abortion debate as a simple matter of preference.

"If you like babies, then you're pro-life, and if you like women, you're pro-choice," he said. "I like women."

But it's a false dichotomy. Abortion harms both babies and their mothers.

Recent peer-reviewed research shows that women who have abortions are more than twice as likely to be hospitalized for a mental health crisis compared with women who give birth.

On this week's episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, we break down the study and reveal why it's dishonest to pit mothers against their own babies:

Tune in and find out:

  • the shocking amount of time it takes after an abortion before the risk of a mental health-related hospitalization disappears;
  • fatal flaws in mainstream media-touted studies that insist there's no tie between abortion and adverse mental health outcomes;
  • whether abortion's negative impact on women's mental health even matters;
  • why this study deals a final blow to the myth that abortion is health care.

Sydney, Australia

Even though Australia is a radically pro-abortion country, the steadfastness of the Sydney 40 Days for Life campaign is making an impression upon the state government.

The New South Wales Parliament honored campaign participants with a motion that recognized:

  • the peaceful nature of the 40 Days for Life campaign;
  • that volunteers stand vigil "in rain, in sun, and in all weather conditions";
  • that the vigil is part of the international 40 Days for Life movement;
  • that campaign volunteers have a right to pray and advocate for change.

Connecticut

In spite of frigid weather, the Connecticut March for Life provided a great community outreach opportunity for the Constitution State's 40 Days for Life campaigns.

West Hartford leader Megan met up with New Haven team members at the event. "I marched with them while carrying a big 40 Days for Life banner!" she said.

While the bitter temperatures numbed Megan's fingers and toes, the reception she received as a 40 Days for Life leader warmed her heart.

"I connected with a girl who saw my 40 Days for Life jacket and said, 'You are doing great work!'" Megan recounted. "Since I am hoping to inspire the next generation, this truly meant the world."

Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.

--Luke 23:42

God, we ask that those who have participated in abortion will know that your mercy does not expire. Help us to forgive as you do so that others might come to understand the dignity of every human life, including their own. Convert the hearts of abortionists. May they experience your forgiveness as so many others have. Amen.
